Magna and Renesas Electronics are working together to develop a more cost-effective 3D look-around system tailored for entry-level and mid-range cars. The two companies said that the application of the new camera has enabled many car companies to apply 3D camera technology to more product lines. A European car company will be the first one to integrate the 3D surround system into its future vehicles, but neither has disclosed the name of the car. The technology combines Magna’s 3D surround camera system with Renesas Electronics’ system-on-a-chip to integrate the camera into the vehicle’s computer system. The system provides the driver with a 360-degree vehicle environment, and Magna said that the aerial view of the current parking assistance system has also been significantly upgraded. The driver can use the on-board interface to adjust the environmental attempt, and its target detection function can send a reminder to the driver to inform them of obstacles on the driving path. According to Magna, the system can minimize integration time and development costs, providing an easy-to-use, cost-effective camera solution for car companies.
